We are interrupting our ongoing series about financial freedom to wish our readers a happy holiday season and to remind everyone to keep the principles for financial success during this hectic time of year. Money seems to fly out of our hands during the holiday season, which can seriously jeopardize our financial freedom throughout the year. With a bit of planning and thought, we can get through this expensive, festive season without being in extreme debt.
Consider a few tips to keep within your budget and avoid overextending your holiday budget:
-have a budget before the festive season starts and stick to it;
-buy presents and save money throughout the year for the holidays rather than rushing the last months to make it all happen;
-avoid using your credit cards and if you do, make sure you can pay them off within three months so you don’t pay costly ongoing interest;
-consider giving time, energy and making crafts rather than buying pricey items for everyone;
-make a list, just like Santa, and check it twice before you go shopping to ensure you get what people want without breaking the bank; and
-if you don’t get that expensive, trendy widget for little Janie or Johnny, they will get over it and you’ll be less broke.
With some thought and action before the festive season, you can have financial freedom all year long. Happy holidays!
