One of the most effective steps to financial freedom is to pay down your credit cards to start eliminating debt. When you become free of high interest credit card payments, you will have more money to save and use for investments and savings. For as long as you continue paying out interest to credit card companies, becoming financially free will seem elusive.
The Better Business Bureau has a few tips to pay down your credit cards and reach financial freedom more quickly including:
- budget effectively and if what is going out is more than your income, reduce expenses or expand your income;
- save every day and put away your credit cards – even putting $5 away daily can add up to a credit card payment at the end of the month;
- pay off those high interest credit cards as quickly as possible by making double or triple payments until you pay the card off or alternatively, transfer balances to your lower rate cards;
- always pay your mortgage or rent first;
- call credit cards and ask them to lower the interest rate – many will accommodate and even if they don’t, it can’t hurt to inquire;
- make extra payments on debt whenever possible because they add up over time.
By taking steps to financial freedom, you will eliminate debt and enjoy greater financial independence.
